Generating a DKIM Key:

Do I need to create a DKIM Key myself?

Short answer: No, unless you are running your own mailserver.

Sending with Microsoft or Gmail?

If you are using Office 365 or Gmail Workspace to send email then all you will need to do is copy the recommended DNS records provided by each to get yourself set up.

Sending with other Email Service Providers (ESPs) like Sendgrid, Mailgun, etc.

Most ESPs automatically generate and give you all-things DKIM to help you set up your DKIM record. So, if you use these major inboxes to send your email, you do NOT need to create your own DKIM keys.

Be sure to use our DKIM Record Lookup to test your current DKIM setup to see if any changes are needed. Also, for information on how to find your DKIM selector, click here.

When you do need to create your own DKIM Keys

If you are sending email from a mailserver that you manage then you will need to create your own public and private DKIM Keys. The public key will be published in your DNS and the private key will be inserted into your email as part of your DKIM signer.
