When your specified domain doesn’t have the required DMARC record format for BIMI to work properly, an error occurs. This issue will cause BIMI to fail, which will render your logo unseen in customers’ email inboxes.
A BIMI error will occur in the following two situations:
-
No DMARC record exists
-
DMARC record doesn’t have protection set to quarantine or reject values
For BIMI to function as intended, at minimum, your DMARC settings must include the following criteria:
-
v=DMARC1 with p=quarantine or p=reject
-
v=DMARC1 is the first tag pair in the string (i.e., v=DMARC1; rua=user@mxtoolbox.com; p=quarantine)
To ensure your BIMI logo is displayed properly in your clients’ inboxes, it’s important to review your DMARC record layout. Any problems within the record will negatively impact your BIMI efforts and your logo won’t be visible. For example, Gmail’s service won’t render the image if your domain doesn’t have the correct DMARC setting.
