My Email diagnostics shows a transaction time of 5.889 seconds - rarely varies - and displays the term 'warning'.  What are the implications of this?  Thanks for your time, Jamie

We are glad that you have found our Free Diagnostic Tools helpful, the transaction time you are seeing is catergorized as slow simply because in the world of the Internet and email, 5 seconds is very slow. Typically we would like transaction times to be under 3-4 seconds as this means that it takes 5 seconds for your server to respond to a connection.

While this may not seem slow to you, most mail servers across the Internet would perceive this as "slow."

Server issue or network connection issue?

Because sometimes my transaction time will shoot up to 10 seconds.

There could be a number of things that are causing the slow response from your mail server. It is hard to give advice or even an opinion since I do not know the details of your network infrastructure.
