    Server Down Alerts?

    Hello,

I am not sure why, but I get alerts that my email "Server is Down" when infact it is not. I know it is now because I continue to recieve mail after the alert comes through. Seems like the pattern is that I get the alert that its "down" and about 3-4 hours later I get the alert that the server is "back up". I am not sure how to read into this. On occasion there is one more "Server is Down" alert between the "Back Up" alert.

Does anyone know why this would be happening? I'd like to address the problem (if there is one) but more importantly I dont want to ignore it if when there really is problem.

     Thanks in advanced.

    Re: Server Down Alerts?

I tried to look up your Monitoring Account but I did not have enough information from your post. If you would like I could check the configuration of your monitoring and see if everything is correct, send me your name, IP or domain to support@mxtoolbox.com.

This depends on how you have the Monitoring configured for your account. We send alerts when we completely loose the SMTP connection to the IP Address/Server we are monitoring. It is likely that we didn't loose the SMTP connection when you had you incidents. After that the server is only pinged approximately once an hour to see if it is back up or responding. This could be the delay you are experiencing....

Please let us know if we can help with anything else.

    Thank you,
    Wendy
